V.K.Gokak, himself a writer of distinction, pays tribute in this 'Bendre: Poet and Seer' to the genius Bendre. Dr.Gokak's essay is however, no superficial panegyric. ‘ವಿನಾಯಕ’ ಕಾವ್ಯನಾಮದಿಂದ ಕೃತಿಗಳ ರಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ವಿನಾಯಕ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಗೋಕಾಕ್ ಅವರು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಿಂದ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮೊದಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಗೋಕಾಕ್ ಅವರು. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಲೇಖಕ-ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಅವರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಧಾರವಾಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ (ಈಗಿನ ಹಾವೇರಿ) ಸವಣೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ 1909ರ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 9ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ತಂದೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯ ತಾಯಿ ಸುಂದರಮ್ಮ. ಸವಣೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಧಾರವಾಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಎ. ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದು. ಪುಣೆಯ ಫರ್ಗ್ಯೂಸನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಂತರ ಆಕ್ಸ್‍ಫರ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂ.ಎ. ಪದವಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದರು. ಉನ್ನತ ...
